Blue & Gray Show Presidents Weekend: Join us for one of the year’s greatest parties in the DC area. February 15 through February 19–President’s weekend — this year at the Dulles Hilton in Herndon, Va. Non-stop open kegs, brewers, beer geeks of all sorts and tons of breweriana. This started as one of the best can trading shows in the country and has evolved to include all things beer — including the beer!
We’ll be signing our book at a 20% discount from the Amazon price. And we’ll throw in an “incredible Spill Not” for only five bucks more.
If you’re an avid collector, you already know about this event. It starts with room to room trading on Wednesday and picks up speed with a brewery tour on Thursday. By Friday, most of the crowd has arrived and there ‘s lots of socializing in the hospitality room. Most of those there show up for a slice or two of pizza on Saturday night. If you have any interest in beer from its history to its taste, you’ll find others who share your interest.
See you there!!
We’ll be signing books at the Day of the Book Festival in Kensington, Maryland, on Sunday April 24 from 11 AM to 4 PM. Come see one of the areas largest literary celebrations — scores of authors, hundreds of books…and seven food trucks. As part of “From Book To Plate: Cooking With Jonathan Bardzik And Friends” we’ll be talking about some of the beers you can find in the area to create a taste of Drinking In the Culture here.
Bob and Ellie host monthly “Single Table” tastings at St. Dunstan’s Church, 5450 Massachusetts Avenue. Only 6 tickets are available for single table tastings $50 per ticket; 100% of the proceeds go to charity. Reservations are required, First come, first served. Reserve by email to tupperstastings@gmail.com or use the contact form on this website. Start your message with “Single Table” Please reserve early to be sure of a seat at the table.
In an intimate table setting, Bob and Ellie Tupper, authors of Drinking In the Culture: Tuppers’ Guide to Experiencing Great Beer in Europe, present 10 beers nearly all of which are difficult or impossible to obtain in this area. Let the Tuppers be your guide for an international adventure through the world of craft beer. The tastings will include a range of styles and regions and include some beer from the Tuppers’ vault of rare vintage beers that the Tuppers have aged specifically for these tastings. 100% of the price goes to Samaritan Ministries and St. Dunstan’s Church.
We’ve set aside some special beers for the April 17th tasting. We’ll have the revived version of Ballantine’s Burton Ale – a high powered IPA that Ballentine used to make only for its employees. A new brewer bought the rights to the name and the recipe and it has received good reviews. We’ll also have an experimental hop IPA from Victory with a hop so new it just has a state (Idaho) and an number for a name. We’ll include beer that we carried back from Salt Lake City and from upstate Pennsylvania including the last available bottles of 3 Gys and a Beer’d’s (I am not making this up) Irish Stout. And more from our vault!
Bob Tupper will be interviewed by Mike the Wine Guy, a bay area blogger and reporter who hosts a radio show on KMYC (1410AM) in the Bay Area (California). It will stream live at 2:40PM Pacific Time on April 9 at MiketheWineGuy.com & KMYCRadio.com. If you’re back east, that’s 5:40.
Bob and Ellie Tupper will be signing books at the Blue and Gray Show at the Fairfax Marriott this February. The Blue and Gray show started over 35 years ago as a beer can trading event and has grown into a celebration of all things beer. Until this year, it’s been in a ramshackle, but beer-friendly hotel in Fredericksburg. The hotel will be awash in cans, posters, trays, glasses, openers and other breweriana, but the highlight for us is the hospitality/tasting room. Beer pours freely throughout this festival of a show and eventually includes dozens of hard to find craft brewed gems. Collectors, beer lovers of all sorts, and hands-on brewers from near and far swap stories and toasts in one of the best parties on the East Coast.
We’ll be there Thursday, Friday and Saturday signing books, writing up new beers in our log, and having a great time with new and old best friends. See you there!
