20170107 (Our Beers of the Day in January look back to some of our favorites of 2016)

Mystic turns out a seemingly endless array of beers, many of them funky, and not all of them moreish.   They nailed this Biere de Garde, however, and that’s not easy.   Caramel and woody flavors start but echoes of Earl Grey and orange peel join in the finish.   It’s gently complex.   It isn’t a classic example of the style, but we think it may be better than most original examples.

Mystic beers are easy to find in the Boston area and throughout much of New England.
