Laurel Maryland’s Jailbreak Brewing is a relatively recent gift to an area that has not traditionally had very many good beer options. You could always get a decent taco in Laurel, but a decent beer…not so much. Now their taproom offers over a dozen of their wide range of beers from Wednesday to Saturday. Even better, they’re managed to meet the challenges of Montgomery County distribution and their beers are featured in many of the area’s better taprooms.

Jailbreak’s Van Dammit is a dark rich Belgian style beauty.

Jailbreak’s Van Dammit is a limited release beer that we featured at the strong beer tasting at RFD last year. A dark garnet beauty with rich malts and fruit flavors that include dark grapes and a hint of banana, it’s a 9.1 mind bender that drinks dangerously easily. A Trappist yeast gives it a very mild funkiness that you’d expect in a good Abbey Double, and echoes of dark candi sugar blend with the dark fruits in a rich finish.

Van Dammit is not always available, but according to the website, it’s on tap at the brewery now. Savor it while you can.
